Decorating with Baskets

If you’re a wicker enthusiast who can’t resist the basket isle of a store, we were meant to be friends!! But having them doesn’t mean you know how to use them in your home decor. I’m here to help. There are so many amazing ways of decorating with baskets. Here’s a helpful list of easy room decor ideas with the many baskets in my collection.

Table Decor Basket

The easiest places to start decorating with baskets are tables. Creating a centerpiece with baskets can be as simple or elaborate as you want. You can fill them with whatever catches your fancy like greenery or candles!

Organizational Bins

Another approach for decorating with baskets are using them as organizational bins. I have these on the shelf in my mudroom. They function as a catch all for things pulled out of pockets. I also use them to store cold weather items like hats and gloves in the winter.

I love picking up thrift store baskets. Mismatched baskets can look great and coordinate well with certain styles. Plus it allows me to pick baskets that function best for each person using them. My husband always brings home random paperwork, so his basket is the long flat basket!

Using Baskets as Shelves

When it comes to decorating with baskets, this one’s a little non-traditional! While a picture gallery wall is great, I love giving it some depth with these basket shelves.

You can either pick up matching baskets like the ones I have here, or mix and match different shapes, colors, and styles!

Another great option would be to stack them on the floor for book shelves!

Basket Wreaths

Wall decor can get expensive. But a little DIY goes a long way in decorating with baskets! Get creative with your glue gun and add some greenery to an interesting flat basket. They are usually pretty easy to hang because of their weaving, and they make a really interesting wall feature.

Tables

When it comes to decorating with baskets, it doesn’t get any easier than this! You just pick up a large basket, and plop it in a room! The other reason I LOVE this easy room decor idea is because it doubles for storage! You can keep games, books, or blankets inside the basket.

Gallery Wall

Another really popular way of decorating with baskets, is creating a gallery wall with mismatched baskets. I would suggest keeping it somewhat cohesive by using similar colors, shapes or styles but that’s not a set in stone rule. Play around with your baskets and see how they look together.

Blanket and Pillow Storage

I’ve already hinted at storage, but now I’m saying it officially. Baskets are a great way of storing every day things like blankets and pillows!

Blankets are often used on a daily basis, so we need to have easy access to them. But sometimes that means tripping over them or piling them on the couch. Instead, try throwing them into large baskets!

Plant Vase/Pot

If you’re a plant person like me, a great way of decorating with baskets is to use them as pots or vases! They give your room an organic feel and add tons of character.

DIY Basket Clock

I definitely saved the best for last! I fell in love with it as soon as I set it up. This is another decorating with baskets idea that will need a little hands on DIY.

All you’ll need is a basket with wide weaving. You’ll also need a clock mechanism. You can find one at your local craft store, OR get super thrifty and buy a clock from the thrift store and gut it!

I couldn’t resist pairing this light wicker with some greenery and my Chalkboard Houses!
