Interior Design Board Nine

I can definitely say, without a doubt, that this is my favorite interior design board so far! After working on a couple boards where I challenged myself to use elements I’m not naturally drawn toward, I wanted to put together one that was 100% true to my design aesthetic.

When it comes to my own personal style, this interior design board is about as close as you can get. Rustic, modern, and industrial styles definitely make my top five list, and this board blends them together perfectly!

In the interest of full disclosure, because I loved this board so much, I opted to go all out with some of the design choices. Some of them aren’t the most budget conscious, but there are easy adjustments that can be made to still get the style of this board without such a large price tag.

The Colors

The natural stone mosaic tile was the inspiration for this interior design board, so I pulled paint color options right from it. From top to bottom, I went with a medium taupe, a tan, a silver grey, and a medium grey.

I decided to go without any darker tones for this board, and kept them mostly light warm neutrals. That way the colors will accentuate the stone and keep it the focal point.

The Textiles

I also went pretty minimal with textiles for this interior design board, and again pulled colors right from the stones. I decided against any patterned fabrics because the stone tile already gives so much texture to the design and I didn’t want to compete with it.

With that being said, the textiles I chose were a light brown leather, a clean white cotton, and a modern charcoal grey.

Finishing Touches

Because this interior design board is all about my favorites, I had to include a wood element. Most of the other colors in this board are cooler shades, so I wanted to warm it up with a very light natural wood.

I paired the light wood with a modern black door pull. The color contrasts make them stand out for a bold statement with a modern style.

For a finished look, I included a beautiful green eucalyptus branch! It gives the touch of organic I love in a design, and also adds a little color to finish the space.

Possible Designs

If you were to ask me right now what my favorite colors are, without hesitating I would say black, white, green, grey, wood and glass! While some of those may not sound like colors in your book, they definitely count in mine! And this interior design board incorporates nearly all of them. But, if any of the spaces have a window or a glass vase, then I’m all set!

The other reason why I love this board so much is because it includes very raw or natural elements that give it an earthy or organic feel. But it’s also very minimal and clean at the same time. Here are some designs with it I would love to see!

Interior Design Board: Living Room

Alright, this first design is definitely where the high price tag comes in. But sometimes it’s okay to just let yourself dream! And this is how the dream came together in my head.

I would start with the flooring and do something really non-traditional by going with the stone mosaic! The stones would give a beautiful rustic organic feel to the space, and bring a lot of unique character and texture to the room.

Stone may not seem like a comfortable option for a living space, but layering it with an interesting rug would polish the look and add the comfort you’re looking for. Any rug option that incorporates colors from the paint samples should do the trick. I would love to find a grey scale rug with a classic pattern in a faded or antiqued style.

Next up are the walls. Even though I don’t have a paint sample for it, white is always an available option. And I think it would be perfect for this space! The light walls will keep your focus on the darker elements like the floor, textiles, and wood.

Speaking of wood, let’s incorporate our wood sample now. Because it’s a living room, storage or shelving is usually a necessity. So for this room, let’s build some really interesting and organic open shelf bookcases. If you have an open concept, it would add even more interest to use this element as a room divider.

Now, let’s layer on some of our textiles. Since we decided for this space that budget isn’t a concern, let’s go with a minimal modern couch in the tan leather upholstery. I would also add window treatments in the charcoal grey fabric. The contrast off the white walls would be beautiful!

We can incorporate our black accents with lighting, frames, shelf decor, or curtain rods. For a more industrial or modern effect, if you are working in a room with windows, think about painting the trim black!

Finish off the space with some greenery stems, white cotton pillows, and furniture pieces in some of our paint samples.

Interior Design Board: Kitchen

Let’s use our interior design board for a kitchen next! I love putting together kitchens because they require so many elements, that can have so many different combinations.

For this kitchen, I’d love to stay really focused on the organic rustic style this board captures so well. So let’s go ahead and use the stone for the floor again. Tile or natural stones are a great option for rooms with higher potential for water.

Because I’m such a fan of a wood element, let’s use it here for the cabinets. I was temped to have our cabinets in one of the paint colors, but I’m really loving the natural feel. In our last design, the stone was the focal point, but for this space I want to focus on the natural wood. And since cabinets are a very dominant part of a kitchen design, they work great as a focal point.

Pairing our cabinets with a medium grey concrete counter and our black door pulls hints at the color scheme in our stone tile and pulls the color story together! And also incorporates a hint of industrial.

For wall color in this space, I would love to go with our grey paint sample. If you’re space is on the smaller side, maybe consider a lighter grey option or white.

Next I would add window treatments with black rods to coordinate, and white cotton curtains to lighten the grey walls a touch. For an island or bar option, try finding chairs in our tan leather upholstery. And the grey fabric could be incorporated in kitchen towels.

Interior Design Board: Bathroom

I think you guys are really gonna love this next room for our interior design board. I was super inspired, and wanted to get creative.

Alright, we are going to stick with the same floor. I know that’s not super creative, but I just love it too much to use it any other way.

Since we are working with a bathroom design, we need to decide on a shower feature. I almost always go with a walk in shower because I think they’re beautiful! But you could also go with a tub and surround here. Whichever you decide, I would make a small modification to our interior design board, and add a simple white subway tile. A classic white tile is a clean minimal option that would coordinate well with our other design elements.

Okay, this is were I wanted to get a little creative. With white tile in the shower and stone on the floor, we still have to add our wood element. So let’s take the wall that our sink is against and create a really interesting feature wall with natural wood planks!

With that as our focal point, I would add a wall mounted floating vanity in white. And finish off with black accessories and a grey wall color.

WOW! I can’t tell you how much I love this interior design board! I had so much fun planning out rooms for it. If you have any questions or need a little more inspiration for your space, let me know! I would love to hear from you and help plan your next home project.
