Creating beautiful design elements for your home decor doesn’t have to be hard or expensive! I’m a big fan of saving on costs with DIY home decor projects, or decorating with thrift store finds. Here are some beautiful and easy DIY Terrariums that I put together after a trip to my local thrift store!

  4. Potting Mix (Lowe’s $4.49)
  5. Terracotta Pots (Goodwill $.49ea)

Easy DIY Terrariums: Layers

Plant experts say that it’s important to create drainage layers in indoor plant pots. And since I have unfortunate luck when it comes to keeping plants alive…I thought I would try it out with my Easy DIY Terrariums and see how it goes!

I started with empty terracotta pots* in three different sizes. Then I layered moss first, small river rocks next, and potting mix on top. Remember there will be dirt that comes with your plants, so don’t fill your pots too full.

*You’ll want to pick up your domes from the thrift store first to make sure the pots you buy will fit under them!

Easy DIY Terrariums: Finishing Touches

When it comes to decorating with thrift store finds, glass ware is pretty easy to come across. I happened across this beautiful white serving tray, and new it would fit right in with my modern farmhouse decor!

Easy DIY Terrariums

As I was putting together my Easy DIY Terrariums, I wanted to be able to transfer them from table to table easily. I also wanted something to be a moisture or water barrier, because I tend to overflow while watering. I also love the way the terracotta and greenery pop off the white background!

Lastly, you’ll want to put those AMAZING glass domes onto your Easy DIY Terrariums! I’m not 100% sure what these were originally. (My best guess is a covered clock of some kind?! If you know, PLEASE solve the mystery in the comments below!!!)

Sometimes, it’s hit or miss when you’re decorating with thrift store finds. But, I was able to find a couple different sizes, that slid perfectly over the terracotta pots! And were a great finishing touch to this DIY Home Decor!
