Interior Design Board - Five

Looking for more home design inspiration? You’re in luck, because I happen to have another interior design board for you! These boards are a great resource to help you discover what style or designs you want in your home. Keep it all or only a little, but hopefully it helps inspire your next project!

For this interior design board, I played around with more of a bohemian style. And I love how it turned out! My goal was to work from a lighter color palette and incorporate more organic or natural elements. Here is the result, enjoy!

The Colors:

I love more neutral palettes that allow for color or design changes with accessories or accents. So I stuck with only two paint colors for this interior design board: a dark slate grey and a light taupe.

Having balance between light and dark colors is an essential element in most of my designs. And I think these two colors do that really well with an earthy or organic feel to them. The slate color is more of a moody or cold color, but warmed up by the soft taupe.

If we are talking entire color story, then I would also include the green from the leaves, white from the textiles, and the light brown of the woven mat.

The Textiles:

When you’re working with a light color story or limited palette, you can create dimension with different textile patters. For this interior design board I chose three prints with similar colors and styles that coordinate well.

Interior Design Board - Five

In this interior design board, I used three different textiles. The first is the really interested triangle dot print. I love the geometric nature of this textile. While the hard lines are softened by lines created from dot patterns. I continued the line trend with the second textile that has a white and tan stripe pattern. The last textile I wanted to be a neutral ground for this interior design board that still had some character. So I chose a white fabric with subtle gold flecks.

Finishing Touches:

Next I added some character to the interior design board with a few interesting elements. The green leaves add a little life and color to the board.

For an even more organic and natural feel, I added a woven mat that I love! Okay time for a moment of honesty. Have you ever walked through the textile section of the thrift store? It is seriously like a hidden gem, and I always come out with mismatched place mats and no clue how I’ll use them. But I just can’t resist, and it worked out pretty well for me with this interior design board.

Okay, I’m gonna change things up on you a little bit. Up to this point, I have used black handles in all my inspiration boards. Which wasn’t intentional, because I love a gold accent! So I wanted to make an interior design board that incorporated a gold handle accessory. And I think it was the perfect choice! It really pulls the board together and gives it a modern polished look, as well as accenting the gold flecked textile from above.

Remember, I’m all about balance. So while the textiles are all pretty light, I need to ground the space with a darker shade. For that reason, I went with a dark marble laminate tile.

Then, to keep it from getting too dark and add to the clean light feel of the space, I went with a simple white subway tile. It’s a classic look that goes with almost any design and helps add character to a space.

Possible Designs:

Now that you know all the details of this interior design board, let’s talk about what kind of designs we can create from it.

Interior Design Board - Five

Interior Design Board: Living Room

Living rooms are one of the most trafficked spaces in a house. And if your living room is on the smaller side, working with a lighter design can make the space feel larger than it is. Which makes this interior design board a great option.

Starting with the floor, I would ground the room with the dark tile laminate. Even in a small space this is a great option because it keeps the balance of dark and light between the floor and the rest of the design. So it won’t get too light or too dark.

Next I would work my way up and go with the light taupe color on the walls. It will create a great background to layer our light textiles over.

Speaking of textiles, throw up some curtains with the white and tan striped fabric. It will bring dimension to the room and create interest. Go with a neutral colored off white couch, and layer with pillows in any or all of the textiles I chose. The bohemian look is all about layers.

There aren’t many uses for tile in a living room space, but you can get creative with how to apply it. Maybe choose a white top coffee table with gold metal legs! You’ll get both elements from the board without consuming too much space. It also pushes the design a little more toward a modern feel and gives a harder element to balance all the soft textiles.

Next, you could incorporate the slate color sample in other furniture pieces like a book shelf, a table to center the tv over, or artwork. Here’s a great place to add your personal touch to the design.

To finish off the space, I would include a natural fiber woven rug (place mat for reference) and a tropical plant or several! If you have the light for it, try your hand at a live plant, otherwise artificial is a great option.

Interior Design Board: Bathroom

Bathrooms are another small area of your home where a lighter design might be beneficial. So let’s see what we can create with our interior design board for a bathroom concept.

Because this is another small room, I would go with the dark marble for the floor again. But for this room, I would balance it with white walls.

Next let’s incorporate our textiles. For this room, I would love to use the gold flecked textile for window treatments. The light would have a really nice effect off of it. I would also try finding really organic looking striped textiles for the bath towels.

One feature of the bathroom that has to be included is the shower. Let’s create a walk in shower with floor to ceiling subway tile! It’s a classic clean look for a beautiful finish.

Since we went with a walk in, I LOVE the trend of live plants in the shower. So let’s get our green leaf in that way! It will stand off of the white subway tile perfectly.

To include the slate paint sample, I would choose a vanity in that color with a white counter. Get creative here, and go with a gold faucet and shower fixtures to pull the space together!

Interior Design Board: Kitchen

Up until now, we have been designing around the concept of a small space. But I wanted to give you some larger space options as well. Since kitchens tend to be one of the largest areas of a home, let’s use our interior design board for a kitchen concept.

Mixing up our inspiration board and making a few creative modifications, let’s start with the floor. In our other designs we used the dark floor to ground a small space. But for our kitchen, let’s get inspired by the light “wood” of the place mat. Try finding a light wood flooring that is similar. It will give you a natural organic element to the space.

Next, let’s use the dark slate paint sample for the lower cabinets and flow seamlessly into a dark marble counter. But don’t forget about my favorite word: BALANCE. To do that, we can create a back splash with the subway tile and follow through with white upper cabinets.

Since we have darker cabinets, let’s choose a more neutral textile for window treatments. I would probably go with the white and gold fleck fabric to accent the gold handles on the cabinets.
