Interior Design Board - Three

Sometimes the simplest designs make the biggest impact. For this Interior design board, I wanted to work off of an extremely minimal board that will still make your space a large statement.

Because of it’s minimalism and elements, this inspiration board definitely has more of a country farmhouse feel to it. But with small changes, like the pattern on the tile, you could easily swing into other styles.

It definitely falls in my signature style theme with wood, black, white, and green! They are pretty much staples in most of my design boards when I’m designing for myself or just for fun.

The Colors:

Super minimal! That’s the theme of this interior design board. So I went with only one paint color, that’s right, ONE. And when you only get one, you can’t go wrong with white! It literally matches everything haha. It’s also a great canvas for bolder statements in other places.

The Textiles:

For textiles, I wanted an organic feel. So I opted for a white cotton and an off white woven material (I told you I’m obsessed with this fabric! I promise not all of my upcoming interior design boards have this textile. I just couldn’t get enough of it!!)

When you’re working with a limited amount of elements, you want each element to have as much of an impact as possible. So these textiles help add dimension and life to the design.

Finishing Touches:

Up to this point, everything has been pretty neutral to allow for grander statements elsewhere. And in this interior design board those statements come in a beautiful black and white pattern tile, and a deep moody wood floor!

Here’s what I love about this combo. With the wood on top of the tile, you can actually see the black and white vaining of it! It coordinates so well and compliments the tile perfectly.

I also threw in some greenery, just because I can’t resist a little color. The green fern adds life to the design, and has hints of the other design colors to pull everything together. To take this design even further.

Possible Designs:

If you like the farmhouse minimal look of this design board, but need an extra nudge on how to apply it, here are some possible room designs I would make from it.

Interior Design Board - Three

Interior Design Board: Laundry Room

For whatever reason, this board screamed laundry room to me. It can be easy to overlook a laundry room because they aren’t a room many people see. And we are tempted to neglect them and use our budget in more present areas. Which is why I wanted to create an interior design board with minimal elements that wouldn’t break the bank, but would still look stunning!

As always, we start with the floor! Since a laundry room has a small floor space (which makes it more cost efficient) and there is some concern with water or moisture occurring to some degree, tile is a great floor option. I love black and white tile! It helps ground a space, but also gives you great texture without overwhelming a space with color.

Next up are cabinets! Most laundry rooms are primarily filled with machines, with a little extra room for storage. If your laundry room has cabinet storage, I would go with the dark wood color in this interior design board.

If you have windows in the room, you can add white cotton curtains for an organic light feel that warms up the space. With the bold colors of the tile and wood, it helps soften the room and plays off the minimal farmhouse style.

Interior Design Board: Kitchen

If you’re thinking of a kitchen for this interior design board, here is one way of going about it.

Starting with the flooring, you could do tile again, but it could get a little pricey depending on the space and I want to give you more than one design option. So for this space I would choose the dark wood flooring.

The next item on the check list is cabinets. This is another area where you can create character and dimension with design choices. For that reason, I would choose to do a multi tone cabinet design using black lower cabinets and white uppers. You could get even more character by incorporating the wood in open shelving for either all or part of the upper cabinets.

Again, with white as the only paint sample, it keeps things nice and simple. And white walls help direct the eye to where you want the focal point of the room to be.

For this room design, the focal point will be the tile. I would use it here as a back splash in the middle of the kitchen. It immediately draws your eye and completes the space.

As before, I would go with white cotton curtains, with a black rod. And incorporate a natural woven rug. The light rug helps keep the dark floor from being overwhelming and breaks up the darkness of the wood floor and black lower cabinets.

Finally, try adding a real fern to your counter! Live greenery is a game changer in home decor. There is something about it that is naturally comforting and helps give a room a sense of life.

Interior Design Board: Bathroom

A bathroom is another small space to take advantage of your budget and get creative! Here’s my take on this interior design board for a bathroom.

Like in the kitchen design above, the tile pattern will be the focus of the room no matter where you put it. And for most bathrooms, that focus naturally goes to the shower. If you’re thinking of installing a walk in shower or will be using a tub insert with a tile surround, I would definitely use the black and white tile there.

For the shower floor, I know there’s not another tile option in the interior design board, but I would play off the color palette and choose a black tile that would follow through in the main flooring of the bathroom as well. Black definitely counts as a neutral in my book and keeps the space clean and minimal.

I usually like to change things up and give you guys options, but I just love using the white paint color for the walls. It helps enhance the beauty of the tile and all the dark colors pop off of it.

With the white backdrop, I would love to see a dark wood vanity with a white counter and black accessories such as the door pulls and mirror, etc. It would definitely be a statement piece in the room.

Finish it off by adding some inexpensive mini glass vases with greenery stems and voila! You have a beautiful minimal farmhouse design.

Local thrift stores are a great place to check for budget friendly decor options like the glass vases I mentioned. Check out my post on Farmhouse Essentials from the Thrift Store for more budget friendly decor options.
